This is the greatest tool ever. Posted originally in
lj_nifty, someone has written a tool that will go back and change the permissions of all your public entries to friends only for you. Here is a link to the post. I hope this helps other people like me who wanted their journals to be friends-only. You need java installed to run it, which you can get from www.java.com.

The original LJ-nifty post is no longer available, but here's a link to the hidejournal website instead:

hidejournal with more information.

you need to save the hidejournal-0.2.1.jar file to the same directory as the command line is in (it's easier than trying to explain how to navigate around to people)... so if your command prompt says C:\ then you need to save the file in your main c drive. if it says C:\my documents, you need to save it in your my documents folder, etc. Once you've saved the file, in the command prompt type dir to list the files. Make sure it says hidejourna-0.2.1.jar and not the same thing with .zip on the end. if it does say .zip, type cp hidejournal-0.2.1.jar.zip hidejournal-0.2.1.jar and hit enter. that should rename it to the right extension. Let me know if it doesn't work, because I get unix and dos commands mixed up and may have given you the wrong one.
once the file is there and has the right extension, and you have java installed, type
java -jar hidejournal-0.2.1.jar username password
(using your info) and hit enter
it may take a few minutes, but it will change all of your public entries to friends only.
at java.util.zip.ZipFile.open (native method)..." etc. error... i tried to rename it like you said, but it said bad command or filename...
Thanks for your help.
You explained everything perfectly (the old lj_nifty link is no longer working, so I wasn't able to inquire or ask questions there.)
Thanks again!
We're about to leave for dinner right now. If you'd like to call me, maybe you can come over after dinner and we can try to make it work on my computer?
